This project has been approved and officially begins in September although partners are already hard at work ensuring their organisations have everything in place to meet the requirements of the project….
Background to SBS (previously known as IMPROV):
This project aims to improve men’s mental wellbeing and physical health and increase their employment opportunities. It is part of the Interreg VA 2Seas programme and is intended to run from 2017 – 2021.
It will use the model of Men’s Sheds to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of men, delivering health and wellbeing services in a supportive community environment. It will also pilot a Health Champions training programme, upskilling volunteers and creating a sustainable model that will continue beyond the lifetime of the project. It will include a cross-border virtual shed and, following a full evaluation, hopefully roll out the methodology across the broader European area.
The Health and Europe Centre is the Lead Partner with partners from France (Wattrelos association of community centres, Jean Ferrat Arques community centre, ADICE), the Netherlands (De Mussen community centre, ), Belgium (Bolwerk) and the UK (KCC, Hampshire County Council, Wellbeing People and the University of Chichester).
There are also six observer partners – the Department of Work and Pensions, Southampton City Council, Maison de l’emploi du Valenciennes, Werkgevers Service Punt, Conseil Départemental du Nord and the UK Men’s Shed Association.
